Canadians learned that Jon Hamm is an “Ordinary Canadian Guy” supported by his love for hockey when the first of a 3-part SkipTheDishes ad campaign suitably aired during the Toronto Maple Leafs Home Opener against the Montréal Canadiens on October 3rd, 2018. The spot is seriously hilarious and it was certainly a pleasure for alter ego’s Senior Colourist and Partner Wade Odlum to work on this campaign developed by creative agency Arrivals + Departures and edit by Saints Editorial.
In the spot, Jon Hamm, best known for his role as advertising executive in Mad Men, reassures the audience and his assistant Brandon that he’s just “an ordinary Canadian guy doing ordinary Canadian things” as he checks “polish chopsticks”, “rename vintage yacht” and “call eyebrow consultant” to name a few off his To-Do List. Like any patriotic Canadian, he proceeds to order his favourite Canadian dish- poutine.
Far from ordinary and far from…Canadian, Jon Hamm exudes an exaggerated sense of entitlement that accompanies his celebrity status in a way that we can relate to. SkipTheDishes is one of Canada’s leading food delivery platforms literally catering to our needs and fulfilling our appetites and demands whenever we want which is something to be excited about. We look forward to the release of part 2 and 3 to this ad campaign where SkipTheDishes and Jon Hamm continue to deliver excellence.
